The Aquamoves leisure facility recently
received funding to carry out an energy audit to identify and
implement measures to reduce energy consumption. In January 2007,
an audit was carried out on the existing building, and a review of
the plans for the new building was also undertaken for improvements
to design and associated fittings.

The Greater Shepparton City Council has a
strong commitment to greenhouse gas abatement. This is demonstrated
through its long involvement with the Cities for Climate Protection
(CCP) program, delivered though the International Council for Local
Environment Initiatives (ICLEI). Greater Shepparton joined the
Cities for Climate Protection program in 2000.

The Council adopted an EcoBuy Purchasing
Policy at its meeting on Tuesday 3rd June 2003. This policy is
designed to advance the sustainable use of resources within the
Council's operations. The formation and adoption of this policy is
part of an agreement the Council signed last year with EcoBuy. The
Greater Shepparton City Council joins 60 other Councils across
Victoria as EcoBuy Members, 77 per cent of whom have also adopted a
purchasing policy.

The Goulburn Broken Greenhouse Alliance is
a program due to be developed soon that will work with councils and
groups in our region to reduce greenhouse emissions and adapt to
climate change. The group will be lead by Resource GV, the Goulburn
Valley Regional Waste Management Group, and will involve the
Greater Shepparton City Council, Campaspe, Mitchell, Moira and
Strathbogie Shires.
