Shepparton Senior Citizens Centre official launch

Greater Shepparton City Council officially opened the renovated and rejuvenated Shepparton Senior Citizen Centre today.

Greater Shepparton City Council committed $400,000 in the 2014/15 budget to the redevelopment of the centre to ensure the building met future needs and community expectations.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dennis Patterson said “it is great to see another Greater Shepparton facility brought back to life that will be continually used. The Centre was first established in 1939 as an Infant Welfare Centre and officially opened in 1964 as the Shepparton Senior Citizens Centre. Nearly 76 years later it is great to see the building rejuvenated and being used by a number of community groups”.

“The works to the building included internal toilets being upgraded; accessibility throughout the centre was improved with lift access to the stage and wider door widths. Cosmetic works included painting and new floor coverings. The centre now has a commercial kitchen and this will enable a greater opportunity for activities and events to be catered all in the one place” said Cr Patterson.

“The building looks fresh and is now safe and accessible for a number of community members to use. If anyone would like to have a look at the Centre and the facilities on offer they can ring the Council for more information”
