State Government Customer Service Centre trialled in Shepparton

Two trial Victorian Government Customer Service Centres have been set up to test the efficiency and usability of a new portal that will help customers access and use existing online services.

Some of the most common transactions such as renewing your driver’s licence, paying a fine or obtaining a birth certificate will be even quicker and easier under a new State Government trial to simplify and modernise Victorian transactional services.

Greater Shepparton City Council CEO Gavin Cator, said “I am excited that one of these trial Centres has been established in our Council offices at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.”

With free wi-fi access for personal devices such as smart phones, and a combination of stand-alone, tablet and fixed PC facilities, Shepparton customers can undertake around 200 common transactions, including livestock tags, wildlife and fishing licences and other popular transactions at the Centre.

Customers can also get assistance from the on-site concierge staff and will also be asked for their views on how to improve customer services to regional and rural Victorians.

Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips is encouraging Victorians to visit the two new Centres, which will be open until the end of the year.

The Victorian Government facilitates approximately 60 million transactions per year through a vast array of services and channels including face-to-face, telephone and online.

Victorians’ needs are changing, as is the available technology, so the two new centres will help to explore ways to improve customer services.

Mr Cator said insights gained from the Shepparton trial would help government better understand regional and rural customer needs and preferences to inform the design and delivery of better services.

This trial is being managed by the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and the Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI) and runs until mid-December 2014.

The Victorian Government Customer Service Centres can be found at the Greater Shepparton City Council offices and 113 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.
