Dogs that bark excessively can be a source of great irritation to neighbours. If you have a problem with a neighbour’s dog, or if your own dog is barking too much, this information may help.
Talking to the dog’s owner about the problem is the first step. Many owners may not even be aware that their dog is causing a problem through barking as the dog may only bark when no one is at home. They may also be able to help identify why the dog is barking.
If you wish to complain about a barking dog, you will need to complete an application which includes a five day diary to record the dogs barking. This diary is enclosed in an information pack which can be obtained from the Council office or by contacting the Animal Management Department on (03) 5832 9741. At least 50 per cent of adjoining property owners must be part of the complaint.
