Family Day Care
Family Day Care is an approved childcare service providing quality childcare in careproviders' homes across Australia. It is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services and is generally operated by not-for-profit organisations such as local government or community organisations.
Family Day Care is a wonderful childcare option for all families especially those whose care needs extend beyond the time limits able to be provided by other approved childcare services. Hours of care are flexible (full time, part time, occasional, casual, before and after school and overnight). Twenty four hour care and care in the parents home is available to eligible families.
Family Day Care also offers a Child Care Benefit to eligible families through the Family Assistance Office (Centrelink).
The emphasis in Family Day Care is on providing a warm, secure, family environment with careproviders who are approved according to standards and guidelines covering areas such as safety, first aid, child development, nutrition and health. Regular training and information sessions are provided to all careproviders.
National standards for Family Day Care limit the number of children in care at any one time to seven children, four of whom have not started school.
Co-ordination Unit staff from each scheme visit the careproviders' homes on a regular basis to monitor and support the care arrangements and provide a resourcing role for the careprovider, children and families.
