Applications open for Community Leadership Program

Greater Shepparton City Council wishes to advise the community that applications are now open for the 2018 Community Leadership Program. The program aims to develop active and engaged community members within the municipality who wish to increase their leadership potential.

Applications close Friday 6 April 2018 and application forms are available on Council’s website, allowing participants and mentors to submit their interest.

Participants will be matched to a mentor who will meet with them regularly throughout the program, and will also work together in groups to complete a project within the program timeframe. The program will run from April to October 2018.

The workshops will be interactive, skill based and fun! Workshop content includes:

  • Leadership, understanding self and others
  • Leadership and team building
  • Communication skills and advocacy
  • Goal setting and creating action plans
  • Public speaking and working with the media
  • Networking and creating partnerships
  • Grant seeking and submission writing
  • Good governance
  • Managing change and resilience
  • Community engagement.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community Kaye Thomson encouraged residents within Greater Shepparton who are looking to increase their leadership potential to apply.

“Individuals from any sector of the community are able to apply, including volunteers, committee representatives, basically anyone who is interested in gaining leadership skills for both their own benefit and the benefit of Greater Shepparton.

“I hope to see a number of applications in the mix and look forward to another successful year of the program,” said Ms Thomson.

The program will commence in April and finish in October 2018. The program requires participants to commit approximately three hours for fortnightly workshops, one hour for your mentor and approximately three hours for collaborative community project time per fortnight. Most workshops will be held on Wednesday evenings, however there will be two workshops held on a Sunday.

An information session will be held on Wednesday 21 March 2018 from 6.00pm at the Council offices for anyone interested in finding out more information.

Applications should be submitted by Friday 6 April 2018. For more information, contact Greater Shepparton City Council’s Community Development Officer Michelle Bertoli on (03) 5832 9700. Application forms are available on Council’s website www.greatershepparton.com.au
