Event weekend bonanza

Greater Shepparton is the place to be this weekend, with an influx of visitors in town for a number of events.

On Friday Greater Shepparton will officially launch the opening of the Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct and celebrate it with A-league preseason friendly between Melbourne City Football Club and Western Sydney Wanderers who will play at 7.30pm.

On Saturday and Sunday over 15,000 visitors are expected to converge on SPC Kidstown for Kidsfest for a wide range of entertainment and educational activities aimed at families with children aged between 0 -12 years for only $2 entry fee.

Sporting events continue with Rumbalara hosting their first ever Murray League Grand Final, Mooroopna will host the KDFL Grand Final and Deakin Reserve will host the Goulburn Valley Football League final.

Greater Shepparton will wrap up with Riverlinks Eastbank hosting the Shepparton Young Instrumentalist Awards. The competition will showcase new and aspiring regional musicians. Held on Saturday and Sunday, for prices and bookings visit riverlinksvenues.com.au

More than $1m is predicted to be tipped back into the Greater Shepparton economy with the major events in town.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Cr Dinny Adem said “it is great to have so many fantastic events happening over three days. With sport or family activities Greater Shepparton is definitely the place to be.

"This weekend further enhances our reputation as the regional events destination for Victoria. It is great to see the broad variety of activities for visitors to be able to enjoy while they are in our town for the weekend. The events also provided an economic boost for retail, accommodation and hospitality operators keep local businesses busy and the economy strong,” Cr Adem said.
