Greater Shepparton City Council completes Katandra West War Memorial restoration

Greater Shepparton City Council with the assistance of the Katandra West Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and Katandra West Community Planning Group has completed the Katandra West War Memorial restoration and re-vitalisation.

This project was supported by the Victorian Government under the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grants. As part of the upgrade to the Cenotaph it has been relocated to a more prominent position at the entrance to the Katandra Recreation Reserve. The Frank Burgman Rose Garden is a fitting location for the memorial.

Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director of Infrastructure Phil Hoare said “The community should be proud of the outcome from this project and expects that those attending services on commemorative days at the new location will have a nicer experience with the improved environment.

The works have included the cleaning and refurbishing of the memorial, concrete access path, trees, roses, flag pole, irrigation system, seating and solar light bollards. The new site has been upgraded to recognise the purpose of the memorial and to more appropriately cater for commemorative services.

The committee provided in excess of 90 hours of in-kind labour towards the project along with financial contributions.
