Seniors Month supported by local Committee

Greater Shepparton City Council’s Positive Ageing Advisory Committee is pleased to support Seniors Month this October which recognises and celebrates the huge contribution elderly people make to our community.

The Advisory Committee formed in 2011 represents the needs and priorities of elderly people in Greater Shepparton and provides advice to Council in relation to effective policy and service provision and strategic issues regarding positive ageing.

Greater Shepparton City Council Manager Neighbourhoods Amanda Tingay said it’s wonderful to have such an experienced and diverse group of people on the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee, providing a link between Council and the elderly members of our community.

“The Committee aims to promote the participation of older people in the community and improve their physical and mental wellbeing through endorsing positive views of ageing, working to reject ageism and challenge negative stereotypes.

“Collectively the Committee brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to their role and a demonstrated ongoing commitment to the needs of our older residents,” said Ms Tingay.
