St Georges Road streetscape works begin

The St Georges Road Streetscape Redevelopment works are set to begin on Tuesday 13 February 2018. The works will deliver improved lighting, amenities on street parking and encourage safe pedestrian movement.

The project cost of $322,000 will focus on improvements to the St Georges Road shopping precinct between Hayes and Swallow Streets. Funding of $209,000 was awarded through the Public Safety Infrastructure Fund as part of the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program. Council will contribute the remaining $113,000 to the project.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said it was terrific for the St Georges Road Community Plan group to see one of their key priorities come to fruition since first working on the idea back in 2015.

“This is a great step to progress the street precinct with additional lighting, improved pedestrian walkways, seating, trees and to improve the visual appeal of the St George’s Road shopping precinct. Shoppers will have an improved user experience once completed”.

“Of course, there will be some disruption to road users and businesses while the works occur, however it will be worthwhile in the end,” said Ms O’Keeffe.

Contractors Jarvis Delahey are due to complete the works in May 2018. Council will work with local business owners and residents in relation to the progress of works.
