State Emergency Service Volunteers in Shepparton

On the weekend of 8 & 9 April 2017, the Urban Search & Rescue training course for a group of 25 SES volunteers and members of the Shepparton Search & Rescue Squad took place in Shepparton.

The practical component of the course was held at the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre on Wanganui Road with volunteers using the concrete rubble pile at the rear of the centre.

This course provided rescue personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to attend a real-life structural collapse incident.

The course included:

  • How to secure, establish control & manage a structural collapse scene
  • Assess & control hazards
  • Collect information & assess collapse patterns
  • Determine priority for searching the scene for casualties
  • Apply search & rescue techniques
  • Use USAR marking systems
