Victorian Mixed Ultimate Championships Coming To Greater Shepparton

Ultimate Victoria president Ewan Wymer has confirmed the state championships will be coming to Greater Shepparton on the weekend of September 9-10 this year.

It is the first time an event of this standing has come to our region.

Ultimate Victoria President Ewan Wymer said “The Victorian Mixed Ultimate Championships is Victoria’s premier Mixed Ultimate Frisbee tournament. It serves as both the yearly state mixed championships and Victorian qualifiers for the national event – the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships. This two day event on average involves over 250 participants across 18 teams”.

“Ultimate Victoria is excited to bring the Victorian Mixed Ultimate Championships to Shepparton for the first time in 2017. With a focus on developing the sport throughout the state of Victoria, we believe that this event will go a long way towards building the culture and awareness of Ultimate Frisbee within the Greater Shepparton region”.

“We would like to thank the Greater Shepparton City Council for their tremendous support with hosting the event at Mooroopna Reserve on the 9-10 September and look forward to a fantastic display of Ultimate Frisbee over the weekend,” said Mr Wymer.

The event is certain to attract many of the best male and female players in the sport, as they all via to qualify for the Australia championships later this year.

Four fields will be set up at the Mooroopna and John Gray ovals in Mooroopna to accommodate for the anticipated 25 teams to take part in the two days of competition.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem said “I am excited for Greater Shepparton to host this free public event, which forms an important part of teams qualifying for the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships later this year.”

“On behalf of Council I thank Ultimate Victoria for bringing this event to Greater Shepparton. This is a great opportunity for our region to showcase Greater Shepparton and further enhance our profile as a leading major event destination in regional Australia.”

“The event will see around 1,000 players, officials and spectators across the two days spending time and money in Greater Shepparton, a great boost to our business and visitor economy sectors,” said Cr Adem.

The competition will be played on September 9-10, culminating in finals on the Sunday. The event is a free public event.
