Wet weather closes Council sports grounds

It is with much regret that again Council must close all sports fields to training this week.

Council apologise for the inconvenience this may cause your players, coaches, committee members, however it is necessary to protect the grounds.

To date this month, the Shepparton area has experienced already 67.2mm of rainfall. Year to date, the area has experienced 345.2mm in total.

All sports grounds are extremely wet and muddy.

This includes:

  • Deakin Reserve
  • Shepparton Sports Precinct (McEwen Reserve)
  • Rumbalara
  • Princess Park
  • Mooroopna Rec Reserve
  • Tatura Park – western oval
  • Frank Howley Reserve – Tatura
  • Kialla Park
  • Vibert Reserve (McGuire Oval)
  • Victory Park
  • Chas Johnson Reserve

Closing grounds is unfortunate, but suitability of our sports grounds for competition games is our highest priority.

With council closing grounds teams are encouraged to seek an alternative indoor or outdoor training venue. e.g. fitness, gym class, pool sessions, cancel training, team bonding, or indoor facilities.

Council thanks local sporting teams and associations for their cooperation and understanding.
