Thanks to our volunteers

Volunteers generously dedicate their time and effort to make a difference within their communities.

Volunteers play an extremely important role within, but not limited to, non-profit and charity organisations. Without our volunteers, their dedication and time these organisations, programs and events would not be possible.

After facing Australia’s biggest fires and more recently COVID-19, volunteers have played a crucial role in helping to rebuild and support our communities.

It is extremely important now more than ever that we recognise, celebrate and give thanks to our volunteers. To all volunteers, we thank you. Your contributions never go unnoticed.

Recognising our volunteers

National Volunteer Week was held from 18 May – 24 May. This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week was “Changing Communities. Changing Lives.” We asked the community to participate by thanking volunteers.

We thank the below volunteers who have made a difference throughout our community.

  • RiverConnect thanks:
    Shepparton Canoe Club
Just over a year ago, a post-Canoeing on the Goulburn chat with Shepparton Canoe Club President Barry Bell led to plans to run a community clean up day on the river. Community members have since helped to remove over 1.5 tonnes of rubbish from the Goulburn River between Shepparton and Mooroopna at "River Clean Ups". Thank you to all residents who joined in. Not only did the Shepparton Canoe Club members jump in the water, they brought along canoes, safety equipment, and experienced instructors, and opened their club facilities for each BBQ lunch. RiverConnect and all our partners would like to thank the Shepparton Canoe Club members for the many hours of volunteer labour they have provided to help make our rivers healthy.
  • Greater Shepparton City Council – Visitor Centre thanks:
Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre volunteer team
The Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre volunteer team dedicate more than 5,000 hours of their time each year. They connect visitors and locals with our community, by providing a comprehensive and professional information service in the Visitor Centre, at events, guiding tours and hosting groups and activities. Through their service the volunteers deliver both social and economic benefits to the Greater Shepparton community – stimulating visitor activity and spend, and involvement with community activities, attractions and events. The volunteers give many visitors their first impression of Greater Shepparton, and in so doing set the tone for the rest of the visitor’s stay. The volunteers are proud to provide this service for the community, and deserve to be honoured for their dedication and commitment on behalf of all residents.
  • RiverConnect and the Sustainability and Environment Team at Greater Shepparton City Council thanks:
    Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group
Thanks to members of the Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group for their ongoing and tireless support throughout the year. Your assistance with many community events and projects is appreciated immensely, as you bring an added element that no-one else can. Thank you for your support with the One Tree Per Child and National Tree Day tree planting projects, and for sharing your knowledge, expertise and passion with many school students through your support of the RiverConnect Education Program.
