The Multicultural Education Centre at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE in conjunction with the Adult Multicultural English Program (AMEP), funded by the Department of Industry.

As part of the AMEP program, home tutoring is offered to eligible clients.

Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers, who speak, read and write English well, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are invited to apply to become tutors.

Participants of the Volunteer Home Tutor Program will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to assist newly-arrived migrants, many of whom are refugees, with their English language, settlement needs and understanding of Australian culture.

Tutors will also benefit greatly from the intercultural exchange and the understanding that will develop between them and their student.

Training is provided free to prospective volunteer tutors. Following training, successful trainees are matched with a client in their local area whom they tutor for one or two hours weekly for at least six months.

Trainees must provide two referees, and obtain a Department of Justice Working with Children Card and a satisfactory Police Check.

The Volunteer Tutor Program Officer at GOTAFE provides volunteers with support, access to resources and opportunities for ongoing training.
