Background - Block 3 Concept Design

Block 3 is located in the centre road median in McLennan Street between Doonan Street and Morrell/Young Streets.

The design was developed based on community consultation conducted in 2015 addressing the below items:

  • Create a gathering and pedestrian crossing space including orientation and interpretation of the many features and stories of Mooroopna.
  • Proposed pavement inspired by the shape of an `eddy’ in the Goulburn River.
  • The central paved area is located at the pedestrian crossing point between the supermarkets and Post Office.
  • Provide a pedestrian outstand aligned with the proposed crossing in front of the supermarket and Post Office.
  • Proposed arbors will provide shade over picnic tables and seat walls. The structure may reference history and culture of the area eg: River Gum timber and the sawmill history of the area; the posts may be illustrated with historical information relating to the fruit growing industry in Mooroopna.
  • Highlight the existing Jack Findlay Memorial by repositioning with the historical Rodney Place memorial plaques.
  • Proposed seat wall to retain a low grassed mound. The seat wall will offer visual interest along the path as well as physical separation from the traffic. The walling provides the option for sandblasted text and images referring important people, events and memories that have shaped the town of Mooroopna.
  • Creation of additional car parking and pedestrian fencing based on the current car park layout near the water tower, providing visual continuity.
  •  Creation of additional gardens beds and tree planting.
