Greater Shepparton City Council has completed the upgrade of the Andrew Fairley Avenue/Lockwood Road/Old Dookie Road intersection.

Project complete

The works commenced in March 2023, and took place along Andrew Fairley Ave, Lockwood Rd and Old Dookie Road, concluding in September 2023.

The works involved converting the roundabout to a signalised intersection to include:

  • Traffic signal controlled pedestrian crossings on all four legs as well as new footpaths and new sections of shared path.
  • Removal of the existing roundabout and significant pavement rework.
  • Line markings to be painted with the new traffic lanes and the entire intersection to have upgraded street lighting.

The completed works have improved the flow of traffic in the area while ensuring motorist and pedestrian safety.

The works are scheduled to commence in March 2023 and will take place along Andrew Fairley Ave, Lockwood Rd and Old Dookie Road and conclude in August 2023.

Proposed works

The works will include conversion from a roundabout to a signalised intersection to include:

  • Traffic signal controlled pedestrian crossings on all four legs as well as new footpaths and new sections of shared path.
  • Removal of the existing Roundabout and significant pavement rework.
  • Line markings to be painted with the new traffic lanes and the entire intersection is to have upgrade street lighting.

In addition to the works there will be some relocation and protection of a number of critical assets which run through this area including water mains, Telstra and power.

Changes to traffic conditions

The upcoming road closures will impact the Andrew Fairley Avenue – Old Dookie Road – Lockwood Road Intersection:

  • The roundabout will be closed to all traffic from Wednesday 2 August to Friday 18 August.

As the works encroach on other areas of the intersection, traffic control will be utilised to maintain the flow of traffic.

Access into SPC and the adjacent homes and businesses will be maintained for the duration of works, however motorists are advised to expect delays and detours will be in place.

To ensure the safety of all working and travelling near the site, the intersection will be under strict traffic management throughout the duration of works and Council reminds residents to obey all traffic management direction and signage.

This contract is for the construction of a signalised intersection upgrade and improvement works at Andrew Fairley Avenue, Lockwood Road and Old Dookie Road Shepparton.

How long will the works take?

The works scope includes the protection and replacement of a number of underground assets including Telstra, Water Mains and NBN which will increase the practical time to carry out the works.

Including these works it is envisaged works to be completed within 12-16 weeks from commencement of demolition to road.

Will the intersection be closed to traffic during the works?

There will be periods of time when parts of the intersection will be closed however access to SPC and local businesses will be maintained.

How will I be able to access my home/business?

Businesses within the affected area will have access to their properties during the works; however, there will be some temporary changes to access as works progress.

Pedestrian access will be provided during the works; however access will alter as the works progress.

  • Convert from roundabout to a signalised intersection;
  • Full depth reconstructed road pavement designed to cater for heavy vehicle traffic;
  • Improved road geometry to accommodate B-double turning movements;
  • Improved cyclist safety at the intersection;
  • Improved pedestrian safety;
  • Improved street lighting.

Who will be undertaking the works?

The works have been awarded to Mawson Construction Pty. Ltd.

Will any of my services, such as power, water and/or waste collection be disrupted?

There will be planned disruptions to services and relevant service authorities will provide this information to affected residents/businesses closer to the upgrade.

Waste collection will continue to be picked up regularly, however, collection locations may be altered for some residents/businesses.

Those affected will be notified accordingly.
