Youth / Word and Mouth

Word and Mouth is a youth-driven and youth-focused organisation in Greater Shepparton. Word and Mouth is designed to provide opportunities for young people to be involved in their community.

Who is Word and Mouth?

Many people are involved with Word and Mouth!

  • There is an Executive Board of Management (with young people aged between 16 and 30!) that looks after governance (decision making, money and representing the organisation etc). 
  • The Word and Mouth Youth Committee with 26 young people (secondary school age) that design and host heaps of Word and Mouth activities/events. 
  • The funding bodies: Greater Shepparton City Council, the Sir Andrew and Lady Fairley Foundation and the Community Support Fund (Victorian Government).
  • The staff include an Executive Officer, a Project Officer, an Events Coordinator and other volunteers who run Word and Mouth and coordinate many amazing events and activities.

What kind of stuff does Word and Mouth do?

Some of the projects include:

  • Public forums
  • Video productions (short film, documentaries)
  • Leadership program
  • Camps
  • Major festivals - Shine Multicultural Youth Festival
  • GV Voice
  • Regular meetings to plan events and meet other youth groups
  • Greater Shepparton FReeZA Program
  • Coordination of the Distortion FReeZA Committee
  • Live at the Park events
  • OutRAGEous Under 18 dance events
  • Team building and youth consultation
  • Fundraising
  • Heaps of promotional work like radio interviews, newspaper articles, photo shoots
  • Working for change so that Greater Shepparton is a great place for young people to live.

Why be involved or support Word and Mouth?

An organisation like Word and Mouth needs your support to make it an indispensable part of Greater Shepparton. If you hear that Word and Mouth is holding a public forum, a formal fundraising night, or a festival…come along and support your peers.

All Word and Mouth events are created and promoted by young people, for young people.
