Glenn grew up in Shepparton, attending Bouchier Street Primary and Shepparton North Technical Schools.

He was introduced to the sport of Volleyball in year 7 and immediately showed great talent in the game. He represented both his school and the G.V. Volleyball Association on many occasions as a junior and then as a senior whilst still being eligible to play as a junior.

Victorian Volleyball officials were very impressed with Glenn’s ability whilst conducting a coaching clinic in Shepparton and selected him to play with Volleyball Victoria. Glenn represented his state in the under 15s in 1985, the under 17s in 1987 and the under 19s in 1988. He was also appointed captain of the Victorian under 19 team in 1988.
