Sports Hall of Fame Inductee
Category: Sports Hall of Fame
Sport: Lawn Bowls
The Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce that we have the first couple to be inducted as a mother and daughter. At the 2019 induction, Shepparton’s best known all round sportswoman and sports contributor Peg Curtis became a member. Tonight we welcome her daughter Terrie into the Hall. Terrie Crozier grew up in Shepparton, in a sports mad household and has excelled not only as a player but as an administrator and an umpire.
Terrie represented Shepparton as a softball and netball player and coached teams prior to changing her sport to Lawn Bowls in 1998 and joining the Shepparton Bowling Club. Terrie found the rules confusing so she obtained a rule book and studied the rules intensely. This led her into bowls umpiring an activity that led her across the world officiating at major sports events. Within twelve months she had become an accredited National umpire and advanced in becoming a bowls official and technical official. She took to the officialdom with much enthusiasm and rose through the ranks, umpiring at Association and Regional finals and championships. Bowls Victoria took much notice of the Shepparton official and encouraged her to train for the state titles. That was so successful that she was appointed to the Asia Pacific championships. Then came a highlight of her umpiring career when she umpired at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Terrie transferred to the Northern Territory to live where she excelled as a player winning State Championships in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. As well as playing the sport she became accredited as an international technical officer by World Bowls. She officiated in International championships and was elevated to umpire in the world bowls championships. It was a wonderful effort for Shepparton to have a representative involved at the top of world bowls. Terrie was twice appointed to International tournaments in Delhi India, including the Commonwealth Games. In 2010 she was the winner of the Bowls Australia Technical Official of the year. Since then she has been to competitions in Cyprus twice, World titles in Adelaide and events in Hong Kong and China.
After reaching the top as a world official and travelling much of the year she retired from International officiating in 2015. Terrie then became the coordinator for training bowlers in the northern Territory for the National Championships and has officiated at the National Champion of Champions. Would you please welcome Terrie Crozier the daughter of Hall of Famer Peg Curtis to be inducted into the Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame.
