Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to announce it will be partnering with Tennis Victoria, Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club and Mooroopna Lawn Tennis Club once again to host the 2022 Tennis Victoria Country Week tournament.
This year’s Country Week competition saw 1237 players make their way to Greater Shepparton for the weeklong event and enjoy their time both on and off the court.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said the town was excited to be hosting the 2022 Tennis Victoria Country Week and was looking forward to the benefits it brings along with it.
“We are fortunate that after hosting a successful event this year we were able to secure the tournament for our region yet again,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“Country Week brings a tremendous boost to Greater Shepparton, attracting visitors to our region and hosting not only a great competition but also providing a social calendar of events and having players visit a number of restaurants and venues.
“The championship draws upwards of 1200 competitors, officials and their families, which will create an amazing atmosphere over the five days at Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club, Mooroopna Lawn Tennis Club and the broader Mooroopna Sports Precinct.”
This year saw an estimated $3 million economic boost into the region and Council is expecting similar results for the 2022 event.
“The event will be a fantastic opportunity for the local tennis and sporting clubs and their volunteers to work alongside the sports peak bodies to help deliver a high quality event providing a great capacity building and skills development legacy for our region,” Cr O’Keefe said.
Tennis Victoria announced today the host cities for the tournament up until 2023. Greater Shepparton will be joining the likes of Swan Hill and Wodonga to host the regional competition.
Tennis Victoria CEO Ruth Holdaway MBE said they were looking forward to the future events.
“Tennis Victoria looks forward to working closely with these great venues and their supporting partners to ensure Country Week continues to thrive, providing fun, social connection and great tennis experiences for all our participants and spectators,” Ms Holdaway said.
Greater Shepparton welcomes all future athletes for the competition, Sunday 13 February to Friday 18 February 2022.
