COVID-19: Advice for animal owners
There is currently no evidence that animals play a role in the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus or that animals become sick. However, there are still things animal owners can do to care for themselves and their animals.
Agricultrure Victoria has developed the below fact sheet regarding animals and coronavirus (COVID-19). You can also view the fact sheet online here.
Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021
Council plays an important leadership role in supporting and promoting responsible pet ownership, community safety and healthy living through a well-informed community.
In accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Council has adopted Domestic Animal Management Plans since 2008, with each plan providing a formal approach to service delivery and animal management initiatives over 4 years.
The plan will guide service delivery and actions, outlining Councils strategic direction and objectives towards animal management and provides a structured framework for Councils animal management service to address responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
Pet Exchange Register
The Pet Exchange Register (PER) is now open for enrolments. It can be accessed via the link below:
The PER is an online database that generates a unique source number for individuals or businesses advertising a dog, cat, puppy or kitten for sale or to give away in Victoria.
From 1 July, it will be an offence to advertise a dog or cat for sale or to give away unless the advertisement includes the animal’s microchip number and the source number generated by the PER.
It will improve the traceability of dogs and cats in Victoria and allow councils, RSPCA (Victoria) and Animal Welfare Victoria to more effectively monitor those acting unlawfully.
