To create a supportive and sustainable space for Africans from a refugee background to gather, to preserve, honour and pass on their culture. To provide capacity building and community strengthening programs along with opportunities for the wider Australia community to grow in their understanding through engagement with African migrants.
The purpose of St Paul’s African House is to provide a community space for:
- African communities to have access to a venue for hire at affordable rates
- The provision of training and education
- Capacity building and community strengthening
- Support, information, meetings, socialising and celebrations
- Building and strengthening African, Australian and Multicultural relationships
- Hire by organisations and individuals from the general community
Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of ways to help fulfil the purposes of African House, the most important of which is to build supportive and positive relationships with African people.
Can you sew? Could you assist African adults to read English? Do you have IT skills? Would you care for children while parents learn? Do you enjoy gardening or cleaning? Can you cook? Can you teach? Do you have an interest in planning for and helping at events?
We are seeking expressions of interest from enthusiastic, caring and culturally sensitive volunteers of any age group or culture. If you have an interest in supporting African people or in helping to maintain the clean, fresh and comfortable environment in African House and its surrounds, please contact us.
We encourage you to bring all your ideas and skills to the table. You may have ideas that we have never considered before or the very skills that we have been searching for. You may be the person we need.
All volunteers are required to undertake an approval process including reference checks. Volunteers are also required to have a Working with Children Check
