Keeping Bees in a Residential, Commercial or Industrial Area (Fact Sheet 19)

Community Living Local Law No 1 states:

PART 2 - PROTECTION OF AMENITY OF MUNICIPAL DISTRICT

2.11 Bees/Wasps/Fruit Flies

  1. A person must not, without a permit, keep or allow to be kept any bees on land zoned residential, commercial or industrial and Council land.

Penalty

First offence - 2 penalty units ($200.00)
Second or subsequent offence - 4 penalty units ($400.00)

All beekeepers who keep one or more hives in Victoria are required to be registered with the Department of Primary Industries in accordance with the Livestock Disease Control Act 1994.
