Peter Fox joined the NSW Police Force in 1978. After 15 months in uniform he trained as a detective and 5 years later, Peter left for the Hunter Valley where he met his wife Penny. Peter led many major investigations. His investigations have featured on television and true crime novels. He was a regular speaker at universities, science faculties and the police academy.

Peter’s strongest trait was his care, empathy and support of victims, particularly those abused as children. When investigating the Catholic Church Peter discovered widespread concealment of child sexual abuse. For years Peter urged a major investigation and for the most part, his requests were ignored. In 2012 he broke ranks and spoke publically in support of a Royal Commission.

As the campaign hung in the balance he wrote an open letter to NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell, was interviewed on the ABC Lateline program and four days later Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Peter rose through the ranks to become a Detective Chief Inspector in 2007. He officially retired from the NSW Police Force after 36 years in November 2014. Today he travels with Penny and spends time with their four grand-daughters. His hobbies include gardening and gold prospecting, but as yet hasn’t found enough to pay for the milk in his coffee.
