At the December 2019 Ordinary Council meeting it was decided that Greater Shepparton City Council will waive certain fees for residential waste at its Resource Recovery Centres on specified days during January 2020. The planned days for the Ardmona Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) were to be held on Saturday 11 and 25 of January. Due to a recent fire in our kerbside collection contractor’s facility, it is no longer possible to proceed with these days at the Ardmona RRC.
Due to the fire damage sustained at the premises of waste contractor Veolia, alternative arrangements to Greater Shepparton waste collection and processing has been required to ensure the kerbside collection service across the municipality can be maintained. This solution has included Veolia temporarily operating from the Ardmona RRC site.
As a result the Ardmona RRC does not have capacity to receive and process any additional waste at this time. Council would therefore like to notify residents of the Ardmona and surrounding areas that due to these temporary arrangements the dedicated Ardmona RRC waived fee days will be rescheduled.
“This is an interim arrangement until Veolia can identify a suitable alternative site and establish appropriate provisions,” said Acting Director Infrastructure Timothy Zak.
“To ensure the kerbside collection service was maintained, it was necessary to make use of the Ardmona site by our contractor. Therefore, the planned free waste days at the Ardmona site needed to be deferred. It is important to note that the free waste days at the other sites, Shepparton and Murchison are proceeding as advertised. We are pleased that we have been able to work proactively with our contractor to ensure that the kerbside collection service was not impacted as a result of the fire in their facility”
“When the site is no longer required for the kerbside collection contractor’s use, Council will consider and advise of future arrangements for a free waste day at this location. Again, I encourage residents to utilise the waived fee days at the Shepparton or Murchison facilities.”

Information and statistics including uptake of the service, reduction in dumping of waste and customer satisfaction will be obtained during this trial period and will help inform future assessment and outcomes.
