The team consisting of 13 riders and a handful of support staff made their way to Shepparton Sports City and the newly redeveloped Shepparton BMX track today to begin their three-day training camp.
The training camp will see the riders sharpen their skills around the track focusing on elements such as rolling acceleration, starting gate training and general fitness and recovery.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Seema Abdullah said this was a great opportunity to showcase the region ahead of the World Cup.
“We are proud to be able to offer world class facilities in Greater Shepparton which have allowed us to secure international events such as the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. It is a privilege to have the nation’s best riders visit and have the opportunity to perfect their technique and enjoy our friendly hospitality in Greater Shepparton,” Cr Abdullah said.
Residents and visitors will be able to experience the World’s best riders in Greater Shepparton for the World Cup in February as early bird tickets go on sale today.
Tickets are available through BMXworldcup.com.au as well as through Riverlinks box office. Early bird sales will be available until December 31st and offer discounted rates on General Admission, Family Passes and VIP packages.
Greater Shepparton City Council is also excited to showcase the first glimpse of the accompanying community festival, Bikes and Bites which will be celebrating all things cycling in the region at Victoria Park Lake on February 1.
“We hope the entire community will be able to enjoy the free family friendly festival Bikes and Bites which will feature amazing activities for everyone to enjoy including freestyle rider demonstrations, music, entertainment, water and sports activities food trucks and more,” Cr Abdullah said.
To further grow visitation at the event BMX Australia will also be running a National Series round on Friday January 31 which will see competitors and visitors come to the event from all around Australia. The additions of the Bikes and Bites festival and National Series round will bring more visitors to our region creating more economic benefit to our local businesses and visitor economy.
“We look forward to welcoming the world’s best riders to our region next year as well as the thousands of visitors who will be travelling to Greater Shepparton for the weekend event which is expected to bring an economic boost of more than $1 million injected back into the community,” Cr Abdullah said.
