The next round of Greater Shepparton City Council’s grants programs are about to close.
The Our Sporting Future, Community Arts Grants, Small and Large Event Grants, Community Matching Grants, Small Town Festive Grants (closing date extended until 5 August), Greater Health Grants and the new Community Sustainability Grants programs are all currently open for application until 12 August.
The Community Sustainability Grants will support the development and implementation of projects and events, which will go to achieving sustainability related actions within the Environmental Sustainability Strategy. Grants are available up to $1000 per project. Funding is available for a wide range of projects including Development of education programs, Field days, workshops, Energy efficiency, Alternative energy, Water efficiency and sustainable building design
The Community Arts Grants of up to $2,500 will support the development and implementation of community arts activities and projects as part of Council’s commitment to participation in the arts.
The Community Matching Grants offers grants up to $2,500 to support one-off projects which build or strengthen Greater Shepparton communities and benefit the community.
The Small and Major Events Grants offer funding for both small events ($500 - $2,000) and major events ($2,000 - $5,000). These grants are for projects that aim to increase visitation and event tourism to the Greater Shepparton area and to maximise the economic benefits to our community from scheduled festivals, cultural events, business events, major events and sporting activities.
The Our Sporting Future Program assists community sporting organisations with the implementation of small to medium sized facility development projects and development programs for new and emerging sporting organisations across the municipality. The Our Sporting Future program offers three components – Minor (up to $15,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution), Major (up to $30,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution) and Sports Aid (up to $5,000).Council grants now open. The Greater Shepparton Greater Health Grant encourages the local community to explore different approaches and initiatives that will improve community health and wellbeing through health promotion or prevention models. Grants are available up to $500 per project.
The Small Town Festive grants have been reopened until 5 August. These grants provide funding for up to ten small towns in Greater Shepparton to enable local community organisations to purchase and install festive decorations such as lighting, Christmas trees, signage and banners.
Council’s Director Sustainable Development Johann Rajaratnam encouraged community groups to apply for a relevant grant.
“This year we have introduced a new sustainability grant, which is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability within the local community,” Mr Rajaratnam said.
“The programs fund a range of projects and activities. As an example, in the most recent round of the Our Sporting Future program we allocated funding to the Northern Victoria Show Jumping Club for a new fence and tennis skills development for primary school aged children at Dhurringile Tennis Club.
“The Health Grant funded a range of health and wellbeing projects such as cooking equipment for Tatura Girl Guides and Calming Cocoons for children with autism.
“The Community Matching Grants funded projects included an innovative kitchen cooking programme that will mentor school children from local schools in the art of cooking for themselves and how to package foodstuffs for distribution to the needy and homeless and a community pizza oven at St Mel’s Primary School.
“The Community Arts Grants program allocated funding to the 36 Degrees South Choir for the Music for the Elderly program and the Murchison Craft and Quilt Expo.
