Council adopts Greater Shepparton Volunteer Strategy 2019-2022

Greater Shepparton City Council adopted the Volunteer Strategy 2019-2022 at Tuesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Following on from the Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan 2014-2018, the new strategy has been developed with the support of the Volunteer Managers Network and relevant Council departments.

The strategy will further enhance Council’s commitment to volunteers and the organisations that utilise and manage them.

The main goals of the strategy are to:

  • Promote Volunteer opportunities
  • Engage volunteers
  • Ensure standards of best practice and consistency in supporting volunteers
  • Recognise and celebrate volunteers

Four strategic directions – promotion, recruitment, supporting volunteers and celebrate and recognise - have been identified through consultation and these frame the focus of the Volunteer Strategy 2019-2022.

Greater Shepparton Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe, said supporting volunteers is crucial for the future of our region.

“Volunteers in Greater Shepparton work across a wide range of sectors, including emergency services, education, sport, environment, the arts and many more,” Cr O’Keeffe said.

“So many programs and projects in our region wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for hardworking volunteers.

“This strategy shows our commitment to volunteers in our region. We are thankful for everything they do and want to support them in the best way we can.”

An associated Action Plan has defined priorities for achievement, review and evaluation and will form the development of new Council priorities in following years.
