Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to announce the state-wide recognition for its growth of tourism with Council and accommodation provider Place Accommodation entering the 2019 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards.
Greater Shepparton City Council has submitted a nomination for the Local Government Award for Tourism category which resulted in a recent assessor visit alongside local business Place Accommodation who has also submitted a nomination in the self-contained accommodation category. Place Accommodation were also announced as a nominee in the People’s Choice Accommodation category.
The RACV Victorian Tourism Awards are the industry’s premier awards program recognising outstanding industry achievements across a number of tourism categories.
These acknowledgments follow from success of previous year’s with Greater Shepparton awarded silver in the local government category last year along with receiving awards in further categories including silver in Visitor Information Services and bronze in Destination Marketing.
Having the opportunity to showcase Greater Shepparton as a tourist destination to an industry assessor from the Local Government Award for Tourism category recently provided the opportunity to further highlight Council’s commitment to helping strategically grow the industry as a major contributor to the local economy.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development Geraldine Christou said Council’s Economic Development team strived to deliver a number of tourism initiatives such as investing in the development and management of tourism facilities, services and marketing to position Greater Shepparton as a leading events and visitor destination in regional Australia.
“Council has worked strategically towards positioning the municipality by hosting major events, arts and sporting events and we are humbled to be getting recognised as a growing visitor destination”
“Council has worked really hard to play its role in the last few years to enhance the Greater Shepparton visitor experience and we thank everyone in the industry for their passion and dedication alongside us,” Ms Christou said.
“We would like to congratulate Place Accommodation on their efforts in entering the awards and for their People’s Choice nomination. We encourage the local community to support them and share a vote.”
Greater Shepparton accommodation providers continue to promote our region and this would not be the first time Place Accommodation has been recognised for their value in the industry, last year the local business was announced as one of four finalists in the Best New Business category for their charming and unique self-contained accommodation experience.
Founders, owners and operators Carrie Donaldson and Luis Casanova said they have been truly surprised and delighted by the level of support and interest their homes away from homes have received since they commenced trading as Place Accommodation in February 2018.
“Visitor numbers to Shepparton and surrounds continue to grow year on year. Our guests come for a variety of reasons including work, visiting friends and family, milestone celebrations (such as weddings, birthdays and christenings) and Greater Shepparton’s busy event calendar. We are also now starting to see a growing number of guests visiting as purely leisure visitors to explore the region,” Ms Donaldson said.
“It is wonderful to see Greater Shepparton recognised as a must visit destination in regional Victoria. Our nomination in the 2019 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards will hopefully encourage more Victorians to visit Greater Shepparton to see all the wonderful things we have to offer.
“We’d love the people of Greater Shepparton to get behind us and vote for Place Accommodation as part of the People’s Choice Accommodation category. We are one of 21 entrants from across the State, but who knows – with community support we may be successful.”

About Place Accommodation:
Providing a welcoming Place away from home is proving a compelling invitation with Place Accommodation receiving a nomination in the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards – People’s Choice Awards.
Founders, owners and operators Carrie Donaldson and Luis Casanova said they have been truly surprised and delighted by the level of support and interest their homes away from homes have received since they commenced trading as Place Accommodation in February 2018.
Luis from Spain and Carrie from Mooroopna met while working overseas and have spent much of the past 12 years travelling often for long periods of time. This experience inspired them to establish Place Accommodation – focussing on providing a welcoming and comfortable home away from home for visitors to Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.
Place Accommodation provides a range of fully self-contained houses in Shepparton dedicated to the needs of Corporates, families and event visitors with two locations in Shepparton and a third due to open later in the year.
