The Cubby Toy Library
The Cubby Toy Library (Shepparton) is a valuable not for profit community organisation that has been servicing families in Shepparton and surrounding areas for more than 30 years. It was opened in 1982 by a small group of parents in Shepparton who wanted to provide families with the opportunity to borrow toys rather than buy them.
Today, ‘The Cubby’ provides families with young children, community groups and organisations that work with children an array of over 1,000 quality toys, games, activities and equipment for a minimal annual fee.
The Cubby is a community based, not for profit organisation, which is managed solely by its members and volunteers and is a branch of Toy Libraries Australia.
Aims
- To lend a wide range of quality toys to families and organisations for minimal cost.
- To provide a sustainable method for borrowing, using, returning and reusing toys.
- To minimise costs for businesses that need toys to educate and entertain children.
Volunteer opportunities
Our initiative is inclusive of all ages and abilities and offers members and volunteers of the Greater Shepparton community opportunities to gain practical experience and training as a toy librarian for free. Experienced members train the newcomers to become proficient in their roles and understand the processes. Main tasks include opening the building and welcoming members, managing the toy inventory, processing payments, assisting new members, and performing basic computer operations. They can also become committee members if they choose.
One of the primary challenges we face is ensuring a consistent group of reliable volunteers. Hence, we would like to extend an invitation to you to become a valuable volunteer at the Cubby Toy Library in Shepparton.
