The Centre for Continuing Education – Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is an Australian government initiative aimed at improving the quality of life of elderly people who live in residential aged care facilities or who are receiving Home Care Services.

The program connects older people who may be socially isolated or feeling lonely with volunteers who regularly visit them.  These volunteers provide companionship, social interaction, and emotional support, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness and improve overall wellbeing.

Our team carefully matches recipients and volunteers taking into account hobbies, interests, background and your personal preferences to ensure the best possible chance for a genuine friendship to develop.

Volunteers make regular contact (either weekly or fortnightly) at a time that suits everyone. Visits are face to face but can also include phone calls, letters, and video calls.

Receiving a volunteer

  • Receive a home care package or be waitlisted to receive one
  • Live in an aged care facility
  • Anyone can make a referral, including self-referrals

It does not cost anything to participate in ACVVS

Being a volunteer

  • Volunteers must be over the aged of 18
  • Be willing to make regular visits
  • Be able to visit for a minimum of 1 hour a fortnight

You do not need any experience or qualifications to become a volunteer. Volunteers are provided with training and ongoing support

Becoming a volunteer visitor can be a rewarding life changing experience.  You have the chance to make a new friend and to significantly improve the quality of life for an older person who may feel socially isolated or lonely providing them with companionship and emotional support.
