Loel Thomson Costume Collection
The Loel Thomson Costume Collection (LTCC) is comprised of over 10,000 pieces of women's, children's and men's costume and household items reflecting the lives of everyday Australians over the last 250 years since white settlement. It is housed in a temperature controlled, dedicated display space at MOVE (Museum of Vehicle Evolution) in the Emerald Bank precinct, 7723 Goulburn Valley Highway, Kialla, Vic.
Volunteer Opportunities
If you enjoy people, history and like to get hands on behind the scenes, this is a museum you will enjoy being part of, as it operates wholly with volunteer support.
The museum is open 7 days a week so there is flexibility in when, and how often, you choose to volunteer. The roster has morning shifts (10am-1pm) and afternoon shifts (1pm-4pm).
As a volunteer in the LTCC there are various duties to be undertaken.
The main focus is to engage with visitors to the museum and share with them some of Loel's journey and the background to the Collection. This helps put the Collection into perspective as the culturally valuable asset it is.
There are, of course, housekeeping duties with daily vacuuming (stick vacuum!) and dusting to keep the space pristine.
One of the tasks volunteers can undertake is to be part of a team who research, locate and set up themed displays to reflect different aspects of life over the years. Displays remain up for about 6 months before being replaced with a new theme. At any one time only about 10% of the items in the Collection are on display.
The Collection is catalogued and all items are on a computer program should you choose to use it.
There is a reference library attached to the LTCC which offers a great insight into pieces you will find in the Collection.
