Damage at Tatura Skate Park

Council is extremely disappointed by recent damage inflicted on key structures at the new Tatura Skate Park, with sections of the facility now closed as a result.

Earlier this week, a concerned community member identified and reported the damage to Council. Upon inspection, officers discovered sections of the concrete infrastructure had been broken, causing serious structural damage. This incident follows acts of vandalism in August last year, where several areas were defaced with graffiti.

To ensure the safety of users, the damaged areas of the skate park have been cordoned off and will remain closed indefinitely until repair works are completed. The undamaged areas remain open and accessible to the public.

Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, said the damage was extremely disappointing to see.

“This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable. Because of these actions, Council resources must now be diverted to address the damage,” he said.

“Greater Shepparton is fortunate to have a range of public recreational facilities. We would expect they are treated with respect so that they can be utilised and enjoyed by residents and visitors.”

Cr Rod Schubert, Midland Ward, said it was frustrating to see a valued community asset mistreated.

“The new skate park is something the community asked for, and it is now a well‑used and valued local asset. It’s extremely disappointing that, because of a few reckless actions, sections of the facility are now closed until further notice,” he said.  

The Tatura Skate Park was officially opened in June 2025, with its design being shaped through extensive community input. The site features modern facilities catering to skaters, BMX riders and scooter users of all skill levels. The recent damage undermines the significant work and investment that went into creating this space for the Tatura community.

Council is currently considering options to improve monitoring of the facility to encourage safe and appropriate use of the site.

An update will be provided to the community regarding the timing of remediation works once assessments have been finalised.

The incident has been reported to police, and Council is calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying those responsible.
