Last chance to apply for Council’s Community Grants program

Greater Shepparton City Council is reminding residents, local community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for their share of funding as part of Council’s Community Grants program.

In Summary

  • Applications for Round 2 of Council’s 2025/2026 Community Grants program close at 5pm on Monday 2 March 2026, with funding available to residents, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
  • Four grant categories are open: Small Town Festive Decorations (up to $3,000), Community Matching (up to $4,000), Minor and Major Event (up to $2,000 and $5,000), and Creative Cities (up to $5,000).
  • The program supports one-off projects, events, arts initiatives and community activities that strengthen participation, inclusion and wellbeing across Greater Shepparton.
  • Previous recipients, including the Shepparton Cycling Club, have used grant funding to support local events, and applications can be submitted via our website here.

Applications for Round 2 of the 2025/2026 program close at 5pm on Monday 2 March 2026. Four grant categories are open:

  • Small Town Festive Decorations – Grants of up to $3,000 are available for small towns within Greater Shepparton to decorate their main street and/or public space to celebrate the festive season.
  • Community Matching – Grants of up to $4,000 are available for community groups to support one-off projects and events which benefit and strengthen the Greater Shepparton community.
  • Minor and Major Event – Grants of up to $2,000 (Minor) and up to $5,000 (Major) are available to help facilitate events which attract visitation, increase and enhance community spirit, participation, inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Creative Cities – Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support local talent, contribute to creative activity across our region, encourage active participation in the arts for all and strengthen Greater Shepparton’s identity as a Creative City.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the program aims to strengthen community led initiatives. 

“These grants are specifically designed for our community. Each round of funding is set aside to help local groups host events, run community programs, or make purchases that benefit the broader community,” he said.

“If you have a creative idea for a community initiative or project, now is your opportunity to receive funding to transform your idea into reality.”

Shepparton Cycling Club previously received funding through the program to support the Shepparton Christmas Track Carnival held in December 2025. Shepparton Cycling Club President, Brett Lancaster OAM, said the Community Grants program makes a meaningful difference to the community.

“The Christmas Track Carnival was once again a great success. We’re grateful for the grant funding from Council to support the event. Local clubs or organisations should apply for the program with any ideas they may have – big or small,” he said.
