Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of $1,000 at the June Council Meeting for the 2022 Seniors Festival Grants.
The grants, supported by the Victorian government, are designed to assist local community groups to run events during the Victorian Seniors Festival that contribute economically, socially and culturally to our community and improve the liability of Greater Shepparton more broadly.
The Victorian Seniors Festival is celebrated each October. Now in its 40th year, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contribution made by seniors to our community.
The Lions Club of Toolamba Incorporated were successful in two funding applications. The first funding application has resulted in $500 towards festive afternoon tea hampers. The hampers will be delivered to local seniors by Lions members to provide friendly interaction aiming to reduce the feelings of isolation which are affecting so many people in the current climate.
The Lions Club second $500 grant will be used to plan an afternoon outing for seniors in Toolamba and surrounding towns. The social outing aims to connect participants with other local seniors and volunteers working on the day.
Mayor, Cr Shane Sali congratulated the Lions Club of Toolamba Incorporated on their successful grant applications, encouraging other clubs and service groups to apply for the funding next year.
“Seniors Festival Grants are an important component of Council’s Community Grant Programs, aiming to encourage the participation of local seniors in activities which will improve community connections and social engagement,” he said.
“Council are extremely pleased to be providing this funding once again to support a range of events and activities throughout the month of October for our seniors. I encourage more community groups and organisations to consider applying for this worthwhile grant next round.”
