The Minister for Planning approved and gazetted Amendment C212 to the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme on Thursday 4 June 2020.
The Amendment implements the recommendations of the Greater Shepparton Townships Framework Plan Review 2019, by revising the Township Framework Plans in the Municipal Strategic Statement of the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme.
Congupna, Dookie, Katandra West, Merrigum, Murchison, Tallygaroopna, Tatura, Toolamba and Old Toolamba, and Undera were all included in the review.
The Township Framework Plans were originally prepared as part of the Greater Shepparton Housing Strategy (GSHS) 2011, to guide the future long-term identification and provision of residential land within Greater Shepparton.
The review builds on the work undertaken through the GSHS 2011, and updates the framework plans for each of the small townships within the municipality, reflecting changes that have occurred for each township.
Community, agency and stakeholder consultation was an integral part of the Review, with preliminary and draft feedback sought during its development. The Amendment was also exhibited from 7 March 2019 to 8 April 2019. Council adopted the final Greater Shepparton Townships Framework Plan Review 2019 and Amendment C212 on 15 October 2019.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development Geraldine Christou said Council was pleased to have updated direction for future growth of the townships.
“Each township is different, so having an understanding of population trends, current status and history, availability of infrastructure and servicing, and environmental influences is essential in ensuring appropriate development,” she said.
A copy of Amendment C212 can be inspected free of charge, at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website, or at the Council offices, 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton during office hours.
