Animal Shelter donates dog to Mercy Place

Today Greater Shepparton Animal Shelter waived the adoption fees for a Chihuahua named Penny. The seven year old Chihuahua was recently surrendered by her owner and has now found a new home at Mercy Place to assist aged care residents on a full time basis.

Greater Shepparton City Council Manager Citizen Services Laurienne Winbanks said “our animal shelter is happy to be working with great organisations such as Mercy Place to assist our elderly residents. By waiving the adoption fees and giving Penny a great home she will be loved and pampered by residents on a daily basis.”

“Mercy Place recently approached the animal shelter about any small dogs that were available for adoption. We then recommended Penny, found out a little more about the Mercy Place project and were more than happy to waive the normal adoption fees due to the special circumstances of the project,” said Ms Winbanks.

“Council believes this is a great way to give back the elderly residents within our community; it is fantastic to see smiles from residents when they get to pat the dog. In waiving the adoption fees this will allow Mercy Place to use their money for food, vet appointments, bedding and possibly toys,” said Ms Winbanks.

Greater Shepparton Animal Shelter still has more animals available for adoption, if you would like to adopt an animal visit:
