Applications open for the RiverConnect Implementation Advisory Committee
Posted on
Friday 28th of November, 2025,
Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking applications for the RiverConnect Implementation Advisory Committee. The committee provides guidance and oversees the strategic direction of the RiverConnect program.
In Summary
Applications are now open for five vacant positions on the RiverConnect Implementation Advisory Committee.
The committee plays a key role in guiding the strategic direction of the RiverConnect program.
The voluntary positions involve meeting every two months to support the implementation of the RiverConnect Strategic Plan.
Written applications close at 5pm on Thursday 11 December 2025.
Operating for over twenty years, RiverConnect has achieved a number of substantial environmental, social, economic and infrastructure outcomes for the community. The program provides an opportunity for the community, government and local land managers, together with the Traditional Owners, to work in partnership to protect and enhance the value of our rivers.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali encouraged interested community members to apply.
“Serving on an advisory committee is a great opportunity for residents to play an active role in shaping the future of our region. It’s a chance to share ideas, influence decisions and help guide the direction of Council programs and initiatives,” he said.
Council adopted updated Terms of Reference for the Committee at its November Council Meeting on Tuesday and following this, applications from interested community members to fill five vacant committee positions are now being called for.
RiverConnect Community Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Steven Threlfall, McEwen Ward, said the committee helps guide how the community connects with the river system.
“Greater Shepparton is surrounded by a rich river environment. This committee oversees the strategic planning for how our community engages with and embraces our natural environment, whilst encouraging the community to enjoy our great outdoors,” he said.
This is a voluntary role and involves meeting for two hours every two months to help guide the implementation of the RiverConnect Strategic Plan.
Applications are encouraged from individuals who value and have an interest in the local river environment, and who wish to contribute to the long-term stewardship and success of the RiverConnect program.
Written applications for appointment to the Committee will be received by Council until 5pm on Thursday, 11 December 2025.
