Greater Shepparton City Council is urging residents to ensure their pets are being well looked after during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Manager Citizen Services Laurienne Winbanks said “pet owners need to ensure that their animals are properly cared for and wearing their Council Registration tag.”
“If going away on a holiday, it is important to organise someone to check on your animal’s welfare daily and provide ample food, water and shelter. This could be a friend, neighbour, boarding kennel or cattery.”
“It is important to ensure that animals are securely contained on New Year’s Eve. Fireworks will occur on John Gray Oval, Mooroopna and animals can become scared and fretful of the noise.”
“Over the holiday period, Council Community Rangers will continue to attend to animal emergencies, collect stray and injured animals and care for the animals held at Councils Animal Shelter,” said Ms Winbanks.
“If your pet is registered with Council, Community Rangers will be able to easily reunite a lost pet with its owner. Any animal whose owner cannot be identified through a microchip or registration tag will be cared for at Councils Animal Shelter,” said Ms Winbanks.
Greater Shepparton City Council Animal Shelter will operate on restricted hours over the Christmas and New Year period, with the Animal Shelter open by appointment only between 3pm on 24 December 2014 and 8.15am on Monday 5 January 2015.
To make an appointment to attend the Animal Shelter during the holiday period, please contact 5832 9700 and select option 1.
Please note, the After Hours Ranger is always available on this number outside of Council office hours to deal with emergency situations where there is a risk to the public. Situations that are not emergencies will be dealt with when Council reopens in the New Year.
