Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with Emergency Management Victoria, Wellways, Goulburn Valley Flood Support and Mooroopna Football Netball Club, are hosting a community barbecue next week in response to the October 2022 flood event.
Residents are welcome to attend the event on Thursday 23 March at the Mooroopna Football Netball Club, to thank the community of Mooroopna and surrounds for their support and assistance during and after the flood event. The community gathering will be an opportunity for residents to share their experience, thank residents and hear from Dr Rob Gordon, a leading expert in disaster recovery.
The evening will commence at 6pm with a free sausage sizzle, children’s activities and access to recovery service organisations which will be in attendance. Dr Rob Gordon will then speak to guests at approximately 6.45pm.
This event will be the first of a series of recovery sessions which are planned to be held in other areas across Greater Shepparton. Mayor, Cr Shane Sali encouraged Mooroopna and surrounding community members to attend.
“Council is pleased to be hosting this community recovery session, in partnership with other local organisations, to offer ongoing support to Mooroopna residents following the flood event,” he said.
“The evening will be an opportunity for people to come together, share stories, offer support and gain advice and assistance from Dr Rob Gordon and the other service organisations in attendance.”
Mooroopna Football Netball Club President Bill Dowling said the club was pleased to be involved in the community event.
“We are thrilled to be a partner in hosting this post-flood recovery event, to recognise the efforts of the community during and after the floods and to have an opportunity to hear from Dr Rob Gordon,” he said.
Details of the community event are included below.
