Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the contract for the design and construction of the Princess Park Multi Use Events Pavilion to local company Moretto Building, at its April Council Meeting on Tuesday.
The contract for $4,894,970 will see a new pavilion constructed at Princess Park in Shepparton, and will include change rooms/trainers rooms and amenities that meet both AFL, Netball Victoria and Cricket Victoria requirements, a large social room with commercial kitchen and glass frontage views over the oval, umpires facilities and a 3m wide undercover veranda area. The new pavilion will also include tiered seating and a grassy mound to take advantage of the elevated views.
The tender process involved a concept design being provided which responded to the specific requirements outlined within the tender specification. The final design and scope will be finalised with input from the relevant stakeholders and user groups of the Princess Park facility.
The awarding of the contract comes following the October 2022 flood event which saw the previous clubrooms at Princess Park inundated with flood waters and deemed unfit for use. Since this time, Council has worked closely alongside the relevant user groups to determine the most appropriate way forward. Due to its location, the new pavilion will be built above flood level, around 2.4m above the natural ground surface, to protect it from damage during any future flood events.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, acknowledged the long journey taken to get to the awarding of the contract, thanking the user groups for their patience and understanding during this time.
“This is a great outcome for the user groups, including the Shepparton Swans Football Netball Club, Shepparton United Cricket Club, and the Shepparton Runners Club. These clubs will have a new home next year, and while it has been a long process to get to this point, we appreciate and thank the clubs for their passionate advocacy, commitment and understanding during the process,” he said.
Moretto Building will now work closely with Council and stakeholders to further develop the concept plan into a detailed design, which will eventuate into construction in the coming months.
