At its March Council Meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of two contracts for significant community upgrades, including the design and construction of a new skate park in Tatura and new public toilet facilities at Katandra Recreation Reserve.
In Summary
The $427,900 contract, including GST, for the design and construction of the Tatura Skate Park at Memorial Place was awarded to Drover Projects Pty Ltd. Drover Projects Pty Ltd brings 17 years of expertise in skate park design and construction, with a team comprising of professional skateboarders, BMX riders, and mountain bikers who will deliver a high-quality, community-focused facility.
Community feedback will help shape the final design, with two proposed concept designs developed based on previous public consultation. The consultation period is now open, running for two weeks until Friday 4 April 2025. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback online via Council’s Shaping Greater Shepp website.
The contract for the design, supply and construction of prefabricated public toilets at Katandra Recreation Reserve was awarded to GR Design & Construct Pty Ltd for $225,316.96 including GST. This project forms part of Council’s Public Toilet Strategy 2020 and will replace the existing public toilet facilities at the reserve. The new facility will include:
The contract also incorporates sustainable elements, including the capture and use of rainwater.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, highlighted how these projects will enhance local facilities and meet growing community needs.
“These upgrades will deliver modern, accessible facilities for the Tatura and Katandra communities. The new Tatura Skate Park will provide a top-tier space for local riders and skaters, while the Katandra Recreation Reserve upgrades will offer improved amenities for visitors and local sporting events,” he said.
“Investing in local infrastructure strengthens community connections, supports local businesses, and encourages more visitors to Greater Shepparton.”
Councillor Geoff Akers said the new public toilet facilities at Katandra Recreation Reserve would provide a much-needed upgrade for the community.
“The new amenities will replace ageing infrastructure with a modern, accessible, and sustainable design,” he said.
“These improvements will enhance the experience for visitors, sporting groups, and local events, ensuring the reserve remains a welcoming and functional space for years to come.”
Councillor Rod Schubert expressed how the Tatura Skate Park project was an exciting development that would provide a high-quality facility for the community.
“This will be a fantastic space for young people and families to enjoy, promoting active lifestyles and social connections. I encourage all residents to have their say on the concept designs to help create a skate park that truly reflects the needs of Tatura,” he said.
