Greater Shepparton City Council adopted the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve Master Plan at Tuesday’s Council Meeting, setting a plan for the provision of open space, sport, recreation, community and event opportunities for the Recreation Reserve.
The Master Plan was adopted following community consultation last year, and was developed after the initial master plan created in 2008 was considered out of date and no longer representing the future requirements of the Recreation Reserve.
The Recreation Reserve is extensive and reflects a regional standard space with a trotting track, two ovals, multi-use grass spaces, lawn and hard surface tennis courts, lawn bowls, croquet, netball, a fire brigade training area, playground and a number of toilet and change facilities as well as a functions and event centre. In addition to a high level of local use, the venue also hosts a number of major events and has capacity to host national standard activities.
The Mooroopna Recreation Reserve Master Plan provides a detailed strategic plan for future development and management of the sport and recreation facilities and further opportunities. The plan aims to maximise the effectiveness of the open space, preserve the natural environment for residents and cater for future community needs.
The Master Plan includes 18 development priorities across the site, which include:
Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said Council were pleased to adopt the final Master Plan following extensive consultation with the community and user groups.
“Initial stakeholder consultation was undertaken with the user groups of the Recreation Reserve, Council officers and peak sporting associations to truly understand the needs and desires of the people who use the space each and every day,” she said.
“Council then consulted with the wider community to gather their thoughts on the plan alongside any additions or changes they thought suitable.
“Council believe this final Master Plan truly reflects the needs of user groups and visitors, and will serve the Mooroopna community well into the future.”
In adopting the Master Plan, Council recognises the aspirations and priorities of the Mooroopna community and user groups for the future development of the facility. It is important to note that adoption of the plan does not guarantee funding works that have been identified.
While some of the actions can be delivered by in-kind work and others under existing funding arrangements, the larger components requiring capital investment will be subject to detailed design, cost estimation and funding.
