Council awards contract for Cosgrove 3 Cell 2 construction

Construction works on Cell 2 at Cosgrove 3 Landfill are one step closer to commencement following the awarding of the contract at Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the contract to local company Apex Earthworks for construction of Cell 2 at the Cosgrove site. The scope of work undertaken will include site establishment, earthworks, supply and installation of liners and the collection system, and installation of a riser sump.

With the contract awarded, works will now be able to begin on Cell 2 which is needed due to the current landfill cell being forecast to run out of available airspace by February 2022. Works on Cell 2 will be completed before the existing cell is full.

Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said Council were pleased to be able to award the contract to a local company and get the works underway.

“The commencement of works on Cell 2 is timely as it is anticipated that the current cell will be full early in 2022,” he said.

“The current cell has filled quicker than initially anticipated as a result of impacts on commercial waste contractors, meaning that additional waste has been coming to the Cosgrove Landfill site over the past 12 months.

“The new cell will ensure we can maintain cost effective landfill for our community, while ensuring it is designed, built and operated with best practice.”
