Greater Shepparton City Council awarded more than $1million in contracts for several major developments at Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
A total of nine contracts were awarded to eight companies, including several local contractors, for a variety of works including design papers, construction upgrades, research and investigation plans.
The contracts awarded included close to $55,000 for design of additional works at the new SAM precinct which will result in a healing garden, nature playground and a shelter with BBQ area for the community to enjoy. The contract was awarded to Urban Initiatives Pty Ltd with the works scheduled to be completed by early 2022.
The contract for Welsford Street concept designs, worth just over $84,000, was also awarded at Tuesday’s Council Meeting to Stantec Australia Pty Ltd. The concept designs are for Stage 5 and 6 of the Welsford Street upgrade, from the Midland Highway intersection to Wyndham Street. Community consultation will begin next month before draft concept designs are released early next year.
The intersections at Old Dookie Road/Lockwood Road and New Dookie Road/Wheeler Street are also set for an upgrade after the contract for design works was awarded to CAF Consulting Pty Ltd. The contract worth just over $191,000 will see designs developed for both major intersections.
The intersection at Old Dookie Road and Lockwood Road will be upgraded from a roundabout to a signalised intersection while the New Dookie Road and Wheeler Street intersection will be upgraded to have a slip lane and traffic signalisation. The upgrades aim to improve traffic flow through the area with construction expected to be completed by the end of December 2022.
Other contracts awarded included drainage works at Karibok Park, upgrades to the Merrigum Rural Outdoor Swimming Complex, structure plans for investigation areas in Wanganui Road, Mooroopna North and Lemnos, Cosgrove 2 Landfill Cell 4 capping installation, and Community Infrastructure Needs Assessments for South Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura.
Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said Council was pleased to award such a large number of important contracts at Tuesday’s Council Meeting, congratulating each of the successful tenderers.
“I want to personally thank each of the companies who submitted a tender for these contracts and congratulate those who were successful,” she said.
“It is fantastic so see so many projects underway across our municipality, many are major road upgrades which will improve traffic flow in and around Shepparton. Now that the contracts have been awarded the community can expect to see lots of works occurring in and around Greater Shepparton to bring these projects to life.”
