Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of a Major Culvert Renewals contract for Caniambo and Dookie at its April Council Meeting.
In summary:
The contract totalling $634,622, was awarded to local company Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd.
Works involve the full replacement and reconstruction of road culvert structures that have reached the end of their service life, over natural watercourses at both Bridge Road, Caniambo and Stewarton Road, Dookie.
The construction works include the installation of compliant guard railing for each site, to suit the speed limits and use of the roadway. This is a big safety improvement as neither of the sites in their current state have any form of guard railing or edge protection.
These sites were identified through Council’s 2021 Level 2 Bridge Inspection Report, which informed and prioritised a ten year renewal and delivery program.
The works at both Bridge Road, Caniambo and Stewarton Road, Dookie will be constructed under a full road closure at the immediate site locations, with detours in place. Given the nature of the construction works, this method will ensure safety for both roads users and the construction contractors, a quality product and a condensed construction timeframe.
It is currently anticipated to be an eight week construction duration for each site, with works set to commence in the coming weeks.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the works are important safety improvements for both roads.
“It is really important that we get these road culvert structures renewed, making our roads much safer for the community,” he said.
“While there will be some disruptions on these roads during the works, Council will be communicating with everyone impacted to ensure they are well aware of the changes. We thank residents for their patience and cooperation when the works commence.”
