Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of more than $500,000 in contracts at the August Council Meeting held on Tuesday.
A total of $281,204 was awarded to local company Watters Electrical Pty Ltd for the installation for tree bud lighting in Shepparton and Tatura. The project involves the supply and installation of tree bud lighting on trees in Hogan Street, the main street of Tatura, Wyndham Street in Shepparton, between High and Fryers Street, and High Street near Corio Street.
Council’s Bud Lighting Project, funded by the Victorian Government’s Outdoor Dining and Entertainment Package, has seen a selection of trees in the central business district illuminated with bud lighting. Lights have already been installed in parts of Fryers Street and High Street in Shepparton, as well as McLennan Street in Mooroopna and in Murchison.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said Council were pleased to see this project continue to be rolled out across the region.
“Council have received a huge amount of positive feedback on the bud lighting that has already been installed across Greater Shepparton. It improves the streetscape at night and creates a more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and traders in the area,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing more bud lighting installed in our smaller towns for community members to enjoy.”
Council also noted the awarding of the contract for the provision of Heritage Advisory Services for 2022-2024. The contract for $105,156.48 was awarded to Heritage Concepts Pty Ltd and allows Council to provide a free heritage advisory service to property owners to assist them to care for those places in the most appropriate way (e.g. education on heritage matters, researching historical places, or advice on restoration techniques).
A contract for the preparation of a Traffic Impact Assessment on the Industrial Growth Corridors was also noted at the August Meeting. A total of $141,438 was awarded to Traffix Group Pty Ltd in response to a significant demand for zoned industrial land. Council has commenced preparing structure plans for three future industrial growth corridors in Mooroopna North, Shepparton North and Lemnos, and a Traffic Impact Assessment is required to guide the future use of the land.
Cr Sali said these contracts showed the true scope of Council’s work across the municipality.
“It is always great to note the awarding of contracts and to see the work being undertaken across the region,” he said.
“These contracts are just a small sample of the work Council undertakes and highlights how broad the scope of Council’s work truly is.”
