Greater Shepparton City Council are undertaking several steps to ensure improvements and additions are made to the shared path network and footpaths around the region.
At Tuesday’s Council Meeting, Council noted the awarding of two major contracts for shared paths and missing link paths, totalling more than $600,000 and awarded to local business Cleaves Earthmoving and Drainage Pty Ltd.
The first contract involves the construction of a shared path along the Goulburn Valley Highway, between River Road West and Sanctuary Drive. This 650 metre shared path includes a 230 metre boardwalk with a 13 metre bridge across Waterbird Creek.
An impressive 200 cubic metres of concrete and 410 tonnes of crushed rock will be needed to connect Sanctuary Drive and Sevens Creek estate to Emerald Bank and Riviera Park estates. The works are expected to be completed by mid-April 2022, weather permitting.
The second contract was for the construction of three missing link footpaths at Hosie Road, Shepparton East between Ackers Court and Cook Drive; Channel Road, Shepparton between Da Vinci Drive and Archer Street; and Bartlett Street, Tatura between Ross Street and Martin Street. These paths will improve access and safety for pedestrians, with all three expected to be completed by the end of March 2022.
Tuesday’s Council Meeting also saw the authorisation of the purchasing of land at 90 Seven Creeks Drive, Kialla to continue the shared path connection along Sevens Creek. The 11.7 hectare parcel of land will create additional open space and allow for the construction of shared and recreational paths. Planning work will commence for this shared path in the near future, and will include design, cultural heritage management, native vegetation impact assessment, flood modelling and detailed design and documentation.
Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said these projects were important ones for the region to ensure accessibility and encourage health and wellbeing outcomes for all.
“Council understand the importance of shared paths and joining missing link footpaths around the region,” she said.
“We want to provide residents and visitors with the best possible and safest access to all parts of Greater Shepparton and ensure there are ways to get around on foot or via bike to encourage healthier lifestyles.
“While these works may see some disruptions in the areas during completion, the end results will provide better access to ensure Greater Shepparton is an attractive, vibrant and liveable region.”
Council Plan
These works are strategic activities from the Council Plan 2021-2025, addressing Infrastructure and Technology, and the Environment and Climate Emergency.
