Council notes Action Plan for Katandra West

Greater Shepparton City Council noted the Katandra West and District Community Planning Group Action Plan 2023-24 at the March Council Meeting, which details priorities identified by the community to assist in shaping their local area.

The Action Plan was developed by the Katandra West and District Community Planning Group, through consultation with the local community.

Since April 2021 the group has driven many achievements for the Katandra community, including the installation of shade sails for the Recreation Reserve playground, new footpaths in Lincoln Street and Queen Street, and a street lighting audit of key locations across the community.

The Group undertook community consultation to develop the Action Plan, which helped identify three key themes; Infrastructure and Services for Liveability, Walkability and Accessibility, and Beautification and Natural Environment. Under these three themes, a total of 18 priority actions were identified, which included the improvement of:

  • Footpath network to connect services and facilities
  • Historic Hall area
  • Mobile and internet coverage
  • Play equipment and recreational facilities
  • Parks and open spaces
  • Street lighting and signage.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council would now work with the Community Planning Group to address the actions to achieve positive outcomes for the township.

“Council congratulates the Community Planning Group for their hard work in putting this Action Plan together. It clearly outlines the priorities of residents and what they would like to see achieved in the area to improve the town for future generations,” he said.

“We will now work closely with the Group to address actions that are within the scope of Council and support the Group to advocate to other agencies and organisations to achieve their priorities.”
